FIXED GEAR HOMOSEXUAL VANDALISM SPREE

I just read about this via Myspace and it's got me seriously pissed. First go here and read their side of the story.

I don't understand this shit at all. People think it's okay to vandalize a building just because they are profiting off of bike riding? I guess this is being done under the guise that bike riding is an "underground, anti-consumer culture" but who the fuck are these scene-geeks to decide who should and shouldn't make a living off of whatever they want? Admittedly I don't know much about Brooklyn Industries and as far as I know they don't really have anything to do with BMX, but if there is a market for high end mountain bike and road bike gear, awesome. Who gives a shit? If every fixed gear faggot on earth wants to ride a 20 year old Huffy road bike that they found in a dumpster, go for it, but myself and pretty much everyone else I know would rather ride a high end bike tailored to their specifications. If someone can comment and explain to me how this shit could possibly be acceptable I'd be 1) astounded and 2) thankful.

Hit me.

WTH is wrong with these fucking people..if anything they should be supportive of the shop because they may have a good chance of getting other people into bike riding..whether for commute, pleasure, trendiness what the fuck ever it don't matter. More bicycles and less driving benefits EVERYONE.

i converted my fixed out of an old 10 speed. thing is the best. i dont care to fit into any scene esp. the whole "fixie' thing. sure its cool, and has its place but the whole scene side of it(just like every other scene) is whack.

Yo Comeup, stick with what you do best - bmx news. You're a little late (8 months) on this story.

If you do write about non-bmx news, at least do your homework, blacklabel is about as unscene as you can get.

Vandalism is a great way to make your interest look respectable to the public!

Holy old news.

This actually has nothing to do with the fixed gear 'faggots'.

Brooklyn Industries had a couple of non functional tallbikes inside their store being used as art installations.

They commisioned someone at Recycle-a-bicycle to build them.

They promised to donate $2 from every 'messenger' bag sold to R-a-B. (the bags kind of suck though)

It is known that the Black Labels (a DIY tall/freakbike gang) objected to having the bikes on display as props in a trendy store such as BI.

Whether or not the etching was done by a member of the Black Labels, is still unknown.

There is also speculation that the stunt was pulled by Brooklyn Industries themselves as somewhat of a 'viral' marketing ploy intended to generate controversy.

The truth of the matter is, bike culture IS for sale, and its selling like hotcakes.

You can buy your bike culture, or you can make it yourself in your home scene. Its up to you.

those critical mass people are in canada too. they ride naked, they yell at us when we ride by them, they ask us to "join their cult", and they ride ridiculous looking recycled bicycles.

i drive a car too, but that doesnt make me want to hang out with every other car driver that decideds to fix up an old crappy car and make it look ridculous.

brooklyn industries has been around for a minue now, and even supplued the legendary artist LEE his bike when he rode from nyc to miami to raise money.

fuck those dudes.

Yeah man, if you're going to write about something, you should probably read it first. It had nothing to do with fixies or bike culture in general, it was all about the decorative tall bikes. If you wanna run around and scream like a cranky facist, at least know what you're talking about.

its the same thing as any other jackass spray painting on any other building.
